This is a very popular area in the center of Naples and you can see why!

All the little cafes and bars are overflowing – people are sprawled out on chairs and even little stools on the cobblestone street, shoulder-to-shoulder with their mates.

The whole vibe is super chill. Everyone's talking a mile a minute, catching up, telling stories, punctuated by those big, booming laughs that seem to be a Neapolitan specialty.  You can practically smell the strong espresso brewing inside the cafes, mixing with the sweet scent of those delicious sfogliatelle pastries and all sorts of yummy-looking savory nibbles everyone's digging into.

The clinking of glasses and the happy chatter create this awesome background noise that's pure Naples. It's like stepping into a scene filled with laughter, good food, and that warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with being around a bunch of friends – even if you don't know any of them!

In the heart of Naples, the spirit of Pulcinella, the iconic commedia dell'arte character, thrives. Representing the city's lively and mischievous nature, Pulcinella's white mask, humpback, and pointed hat are a common sight in local art, souvenirs, and street performances. As you wander through Naples, you might encounter statues and murals of this beloved figure, especially near Via dei Tribunali, where the playful and clever spirit of Pulcinella perfectly matches the city's vibrant and chaotic energy. Embrace the charm and humor of Pulcinella as you explore the streets of Naples, a city where tradition and character come to life.

Locals and visitors alike believe that giving Pulcinella's nose a gentle rub brings good luck and fortune. This whimsical practice is more than just a superstition; it’s a way to connect with the heart and soul of Neapolitan culture. So, as you stroll through the historic streets, don't miss the chance to partake in this charming ritual. Embrace the playful spirit of Naples and let a touch of Pulcinella's magic brighten your journey!

Chiesa dei Girolamini

Next on our journey, let's go further back to explore the Chiesa dei Girolamini and the fascinating area around it. Nestled in the heart of Naples, this splendid church is a hidden gem brimming with Baroque elegance and rich history. Built in the late 16th century, the Chiesa dei Girolamini boasts an impressive façade with ornate stuccoes and sculptures that immediately catch the eye.

Step inside, and you’ll be mesmerized by the lavish interior. The ceilings are adorned with stunning frescoes by renowned artists like Luca Giordano and Giovanni Battista Caracciolo. The church also houses a remarkable collection of art, including works by the great Neapolitan painter, Jusepe de Ribera. The intricate marble floors, gilded altars, and detailed woodwork create an atmosphere of divine beauty and serenity.

The area around the Chiesa dei Girolamini is just as captivating. You’ll find yourself in the bustling Spaccanapoli district, a narrow street that cuts through the historic center of Naples. Nearby, you can explore the San Gregorio Armeno, famous for its artisan workshops and nativity scenes.

Giant Venus Sculpture

The Giant Venus of the Rags statue is a striking sight in Naples, Italy! This new installation by renowned Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto stands proudly in Piazza Municipio. It's actually a replacement for the original statue, which was tragically destroyed by vandalism in 2023. Thankfully, in spring 2024, Pistoletto's powerful artwork was brought back to life. The statue is a bold statement on waste and consumerism, featuring a classical Venus figure juxtaposed against a mountain of discarded rags. The artist first conceived this thought-provoking piece in 1967, though not on this monumental scale. The Giant Venus now serves as a poignant reminder of our environmental responsibilities. Stay tuned for our upcoming walking tour video, where we’ll explore more of Naples’ unique attractions!

Ovo Castle Bar Restaurants

So, you're in Naples, Italy, the place where pizza basically invented itself.  While you're there, you gotta check out the Ovo Castle, this super old fortress that sits right on the water. Bad news though, as it was closed for renovations when we visited.  We were lucky to be inside on a previous trip, so we suggest you check it out!

Even though you can't go inside, the Ovo Castle is still a sight to see. It has been standing guard over Naples for centuries, like since way back in the Norman times (think knights and stuff).  Just picture this massive stone castle chilling on a little peninsula, with the whole city of Naples sprawled out behind it. Plus, the views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius are killer, especially on a clear day.

Now, the real fun starts after the sun sets.  The whole area around the Ovo Castle comes alive at night.  Forget fancy restaurants – this is all about the local scene.  There are these awesome little bars called "taverns" lining the streets, all with tables spilling out onto the sidewalk.  Everyone's outside, catching up with friends, sharing plates of fresh seafood (Naples is right on the water, remember?), and downing glasses of local wine.  The air is buzzing with happy chatter of people enjoying themselves. Lights twinkle from the cafes, making the whole place feel super cozy and inviting.

It's the perfect spot to grab a drink, some delicious food, and soak up the real Neapolitan vibe.  Forget fancy, this is all about authenticity and just having a good time.  So even though the Ovo Castle might be closed for renovation, the area around it is definitely wide awake and ready to show you a good time!

Via Partenope

Via Partenope in Naples is a stunning seaside promenade that stretches along the curve of the bay, like a sidewalk built for kings. The best part? During certain hours of the day, the whole traffic is shut down, turning it into a pedestrian paradise.

Imagine it – no noisy cars, just you and a whole bunch of other people strolling along, breathing in that fresh sea air and soaking up the sunshine. You might even see families with little kids, or couples taking a romantic walk hand-in-hand.

But Via Partenope isn't just for sightseeing, it's also a foodie haven. Lining the entire stretch are tons of amazing restaurants, both fancy and casual. We're talking about open-air spots with tables right on the sidewalk, so you can basically enjoy your meal with a million-dollar view of the Mediterranean Sea. Feeling like pizza? No problem, there's a pizzeria practically every other door. Craving fresh seafood caught straight from the bay? You're in the right place. The smell of grilling fish and garlic butter will have your stomach grumbling in no time.

So whether you're looking for a romantic dinner spot under the stars, a casual lunch break with a view, or just a place to people-watch and enjoy the vibe, Via Partenope has you covered. It's the perfect way to experience the beauty of Naples, the deliciousness of its food, and the laid-back charm of its people. Just be sure to check the times because many restaurants close for a couple of hours during midday.
