Kobe is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū.

The name comes from Kanbe which is an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine.

Metro population is estimated to about 2,400,000.

The January 17, 1995 earthquake killed more than 5.000 people.

The city was briefly the capital of Japan in 1180.

Plenty of restaurants serve the famous Wagyu Kobe beef from Japanese Black cattle.
