Parking Options
Soon we'll arrive at Keramoti’s port in less than a minute. This area is particularly useful for those planning to park their car, whether you're staying in Keramoti or simply visiting Limenas without your vehicle. The parking area is free, mostly paved, with some dirt sections near the trees.

It's a long, straight stretch of about 500 meters before you turn right to the port. Keep in mind, that it can take over 10 minutes to walk from the farthest parking spot, so consider dropping off your passengers at the port first. As you walk, you'll see parking spaces on your left and some accommodation options on your right.

Reaching Port - Tickets Booth

We took the longest route to highlight just how close the port is. After passing the parking area, we turned right and walked along the main waterfront. On your right, you'll find a variety of seafront hotels, supermarkets, grocery stores, cafes, taverns, and restaurants. The moored ferries are already in sight, and we'll soon reach the ticket booth.

We'll cover all the details about prices and ferry schedules once we're on board. For now, keep in mind that on busy days, this strip can be packed with cars waiting all the way back to the parking area! Don’t get distracted by people handing out flyers—feel free to take them if you want, but stay focused on those directing you to the ferry entrance. To your left, you'll see the line at the ticket booths.

If you're not familiar with the area, especially if you're not Greek, make sure to ask for the ferry's name, as there’s often more than one moored. However, you can usually spot your ferry by the line of cars eager to board!

Ferry Keramoti - Thasos

Alright, we’re aboard! Let’s dive into the ticketing details.

First off, here’s a handy link that shows up-to-date arrivals and departures

https://dromologia-kavalas-thasou.blogspot.com/

While most of the content is in Greek, ship names and departure times from each port are in English, and the timetable is typically updated weekly. During the summer months, ferries run from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with departures every half hour from each port. In winter, the schedule is reduced, but since you're likely visiting in summer, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Now, let’s talk about prices and practical details. One key point: you can’t prebook or buy tickets online. When you queue up with your car or purchase a passenger ticket, you're also lining up to board. Here are the current prices as of this video’s upload:

  • A single-passenger ticket is 5 euros.
  • Children under 5 travel free.
  • Children aged 5-10 pay 3 euros.
  • Groups can get a discount.
  • Cars up to 4.25 meters long pay 20 euros, while those over 4.25 meters pay 25 euros.
  • Bikes are charged 5 to 6 euros, depending on whether they are under or over 250 cc.

These rates apply for the route from Keramoti to Limenas. Did you know there’s another port you can use? You can also travel from Kavala to Prinos. Although this route has fewer ferries—five per day in summer and about three in winter—it saves you the 40-45 km drive from Kavala to Keramoti. Passenger tickets on this route cost 6.5 euros, with car prices the same as from Keramoti. To sum up, Keramoti takes you to Limenas, while Kavala leads to Prinos. The Kavala option might be better if you're heading to other parts of Thasos Island.

Disembarking To Limenas

With all this talk about tickets, we've already arrived at Limenas! The trip isn't long—just about 35 minutes. In the upcoming chapters, we'll dive into the sailing experience, including what to do aboard and the playful games seagulls enjoy as they follow the ferry. But for now, let’s focus on disembarking. You can use either of the two exits, but as you can see, passengers disembark first. Before the ferry docks, if you have a car, the driver can head down to the vehicle while the rest of the passengers wait outside. As you disembark, you'll notice shops and taverns on the right, but the main attractions in Limenas are to your left if you're staying or visiting there.

If you want to explore Limenas, we have a thorough video

You can begin your journey at the bustling port, where traditional taverns and charming shops invite you to dive into local flavors and souvenirs. Then capture the moment with the "I Love Thasos" sign by the sea. Stroll along the waterfront, from West to East, where the waves and scenic views will steal your heart. Wander towards the Old Port, a historic gem where boats sway gently in the harbor, surrounded by timeless architecture. Discover the island’s history at the Kalogeriko Museum. Indulge in local delicacies at Miaouli Beach, where bars and restaurants line the shore. Relax at Karnagio Beach Bar, the perfect spot to unwind with a stunning view of the Aegean Sea. End your tour in the lively town center, with a variety of shops and fast food options to satisfy every craving.

Limenas Tickets Booth - Embarkation

Yes, we get it—this long line can be frustrating! But patience is key, especially if you're returning to Keramoti with a car. If you're a foot passenger, getting a ticket is easier, but you’ll still need to wait in line. Let's take a walk so you can see how things work. All the cars lined up to our left are waiting in multiple queues to board the ferry. The same rules apply here as in Keramoti: only the driver can stay inside the car and must follow instructions from the port authority or ferry staff to board. So, while the wait might seem long, following these steps ensures a smooth boarding process for everyone.

Now, let’s board the ferry for the way back to Keramoti.

You’ll easily notice that there are fewer people now.

That’s because it’s a weekday evening, not a weekend one.

But in a minute we’ll have a look at another ferry arriving and you’ll see it’s also coming packed!

At the time of writing this, stats say that about 50.000 tourists reach the island per day, while the permanent residents are about 13.000 and an equal amount is working on the island.

The island has approximately 40,000 accommodation beds, with about 30,000 in hotels and the remaining 10,000 available through Airbnb.

In July and August, you could almost not find a single room available.

Most passengers prefer to sit outdoors during the short ferry trip, taking the opportunity to enjoy the scenic views or even feed the seagulls—a sight we'll experience a bit later. However, if the weather feels too warm or the sun too strong, you can always move inside to the air-conditioned seating area, offering a cool and comfortable alternative for all ages.

Onboard, you'll also find a canteen that serves a selection of basic snacks, such as toasts, along with coffee, soft drinks, and other refreshments to keep you energized during the journey. For convenience, restrooms are available on both sides of the ship, ensuring easy access no matter where you're seated.

But now it’s time for the ferry to depart so we will go up to admire the view.

Ferry Thasos - Keramoti

As we mentioned earlier, this is a brief 35-minute trip to Keramoti. In some minutes, we’ll get a closer view of Keramoti from the sea, along with its surrounding area, and then enjoy the playful flight of the seagulls that accompany our journey. But before we focus on that, let's take a moment to have another look at Limenas.

We recommend sitting on the right side of the ferry for the best views, and now, as we approach Keramoti, you’ll see why. The view really opens up, giving you a clear look at the town and its surroundings.

Approaching Keramoti

As we mentioned at the start, when we discussed parking options in Keramoti, many visitors choose to rent a room here and take at least a day trip to Thassos. Keramoti’s sandy shoreline is where you’ll find all the beach bars, away from the immediate port area. This stretch of beach is popular for its laid-back vibe, with a couple of camping sites available as well as free areas where you can set up your own sunloungers and umbrellas.

At the very tip of the coast, there’s also a canteen offering coffee and snacks, perfect for a quick refreshment. For those looking for more dining options, the beach bars along the shore provide a variety of meals right by the sea, making it easy to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach with everything you need close at hand.

Game Of Seagulls!

Now, for the final and perhaps most exciting part of our tour—the playful game of the seagulls! These clever birds love to accompany the ferry, flying incredibly close as you can see. They’re quite familiar with humans, and passengers often feed them during the journey. What’s amazing is how the seagulls seem to calculate the perfect distance—they make an initial approach, then circle back to skillfully snatch the food right from people’s hands!

As we wrap up this tour, we hope you’ve enjoyed this journey with us, exploring the fastest way to sail from Keramoti to Thasos Island and back. Whether it’s the scenic views, the charm of the beach bars, or the unforgettable experience of watching these seagulls in action, we’ve tried to capture the essence of this quick yet memorable ferry trip. Safe travels, and until next time!
