Where is Navagio Epanomi?
Navagio
Epanomi is located in the municipality of Epanomi near Thessaloniki, Greece. It
is situated on the northeastern coast of Greece, overlooking the beautiful
Thermaic Gulf. This serene beach is nestled between the Aegean Sea's azure
waters and the region's lush landscapes.
How to Get There
Reaching
Navagio Epanomi is relatively easy. It's about 40 kilometres away from
Thessaloniki. The beach is also accessible by public transportation, with
regular bus services available from Thessaloniki to Epanomi. Just be warned if
you are driving that the last part is a dirt road, so you might want to park
your car as long as you reach the beachfront!
Is it Free to Visit?
Yes,
Epanomi Beach and the Navagio Shipwreck are free to visit. You can enjoy the
natural beauty and explore the shipwreck site without any entrance fees. There
might only be additional costs for parking or facilities such as sunbeds and
umbrellas if you choose to use the nearby beach bars. No one is going to charge
you for visiting Navagio!
Is it an All-Year Destination?
Epanomi
Beach and the Navagio Shipwreck can be visited year-round. However, it's
important to note that the beach sees more visitors during the summer months,
from May to September when the weather is warm and pleasant for swimming. If
you prefer a quieter experience, visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring
or autumn can be equally enjoyable, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds.
The Story behind Navagio Shipwreck
The
Navagio Shipwreck in Epanomi has a fascinating history. The shipwreck occurred
in the winter of 1970 when a cargo ship, carrying out soil in order to disturb
and fill with it the area's habitat of extraordinary natural beauty, home to
hundreds of fauna species thriving, ran aground near the shores of Epanomi. The
urban legend mentions that Saint Antoni saved the natural beauty area, as the
accident occurred on his name day on January 17! Over time, the abandoned
shipwreck became a striking landmark, surrounded by clear waters, as you can
see so close to the shore! Today, the rusty remains of the ship create a unique
and captivating sight for visitors to behold.
Is it Dangerous?
While
the Navagio Shipwreck itself is not dangerous, it's essential to exercise
caution when exploring the area. The beach is close, but it's advisable to
avoid venturing too close to the edges. Additionally, always check the weather
conditions and heed any warnings to ensure your safety. The beach itself is
generally safe for swimming, but as with any coastal area, it's important to be
aware of currents and follow any posted guidelines.

sands and crystal-clear waters, it offers a serene environment to relax and

Beach offers a serene and idyllic setting.
